Atari games for Tesla
The new released software update Version 9 includes several new features like ‚navigate on autopilot‘, dashcam (using the vehicles autopilot cameras) and a completely new user interface for Model S and Model X which is similar to Model 3’s UI. Besides these new features Version 9 includes some classic Atari games, which Elon Musk announced earlier this year via twitter:
„Some of best classic @Atari games coming as Easter eggs in Tesla V9.0 release in about 4 weeks. Thanks @Atari!“
– Elon Musk (1. August 2018)
The three playable classic Atari games are Centipede, Lunar Lander and Missile Command, which were originally published for Arcade machines in the 1980s. To access them the car has to be in „Park“ mode. All three games are played using the touch display. In a reply on his original tweet Musk was hoping to include the classic game pole position with the controls being linked to the actual car steering wheel. Nevertheless is was not released and maybe the game will be available in future software updates.
Besides the Atari classics Tesla is planning to bring more games into their cars and is hiring video game developers. On the same day as Musk announced the Atari easter egg he wrote the following Tweet:
„If you’re into video game development, consider applying to Tesla. We want to make super fun games that integrate the center touch screen, phone & car irl.“ – Elon Musk (1. August 2018)
